chapels | it's just a pause
3" cd-r
Adam Richards (House of Alchemy) has been AT it with his Chapels project the last few months.
His ’09 releases have been winners in every way and this one tightens his game even more.
Richards crafts his pieces like an ancient storyteller would tell his tales. He takes his time to let
the piece breathe, streams of rusty and ragged drones roll in and gain intensity, like earth slowly
falling apart at your feet. This whole piece might feel like a classic composer’s take on Wolf Eyes,
a tale of urban despair.

social junk | four chambers of the heart

Much needed reissue of this mysterious Social Junk classic. Like a gutter romance gone wrong these three tracks ooze with
filth, but in the most gorgeous way. Wailing saxophones cry out while the background fills up with dense percussion,
the rattling of chains and an atmosphere you’d most likely find in a possessed rat’s hole in the backstreets of a
Bangkok ghetto.

wasteland jazz unit | barren sect
cd-r
Here’s a record that doesn’t waste time blasting the testicles up your throat!
Wasteland Jazz Unit have been sandblasting ears throughout 2008 and it certainly
feels like a privilige to kickstart a new WJU year with some of their most putrid Fried Jazz
to date. Saxophonist Jon Lorenz and clarinettist John Rich delve deeper into the
Great Borbetomagus Saga than anyone else these days but add some extra k’s of Noise
crudeness to it to make it sound like freejazz for sewage rat biker gangs.
The three tracks on this album feel like huge bolts of reed feedback sandblasting the
grease out of your ears. A highlight in their discography so far and, let me quote
Jon Lorenz here: “definitely some of the best stuff we've recorded yet”.

Cut Hands headquarters is proud to release the debut album by this Oakland, Cali, band.
Lost in a dense fog between Heavy Winged and The Skaters, this outfit jumps from
deformed rock moves, acoustic acid and blurry soundscapes to truly fucked up guitarjams
and slowjazz voodoo piano. It’s an understatement to say that Mokele Mbembe offer a wide
array of sounds on this self-titled album, the opener brings up images of tropical sunsets
suffering under heavy monsoons while another track feels like a no holds barred, Japrock
jamsession, psych guitars meandering into an unknown, mushroom polluted void. And more…

the julie mittens
cd-r
Oh fuck yeah. Stoked beyond belief to finally drop this. Last September The Julie Mittens dragged their suitcases
filled with (un)Holy Fire across the Atlantic to play a couple of hard earned gigs. Their first time ever in the States
and they sure realized they couldn’t leave without leaving behind scorched earth. Cellars got torn down and basements
wrecked, a band on fire from Syracuse to Virginia. This release is evidence that the tour was a massive succes,
recorded live in Albany NY, the Dutch trio unleash two face melting jams much in the vein of Fushitsusha but with the
spirit of the most out there freejazz units (think late period Coltrane, Raphe Malik, Evan Parker et al) branded in their
way of playing.
So here’s the deal; edition of 100 with 100 different covers of photo’s taken on tour by the band. Carefully selected
by the Mittens with the name of the band + name of the recording screenprinted on each one. There’s not one double here.
Also, this release has an important significant other, go check out Abandon Ship for a very, very different live recording and 100 different covers as well. Be sure to buy theirs too later this week because those people suffering from that damned economy need it!

uneven universe | wormhole
cd-r
It’s still a damn shame Haunted Castle is no more but sometimes something great has to make way for something
awesome. And at this point, the unbridled rawness of Uneven Universe is a fair match for the brooding beauty of
Haunted Castle. Comfortable in the grimiest parts of Michigan’s underground gutters, Dan (Haunted Castle, Cardboard Sax)
and Holly (Cardboard Sax, with John Olson too) put a twisted dirge into the world of fucked up freejazz. Raw and
uncompromised chunks of saxophone collide with a barrage of molten electronics. Often creating an Industrial vibe
but transferred to the freejazz wastelands so many great bands of today roam in.

jason rohm | suicide
artbook + compilation cd-r
Originally intended to celebrate the first anniversary of Cut Hands waaay back in Januscary but since it’s
never too late to celebrate in the oh 8 here it is and goddamn if it wasn’t worth the goddamning wait.
Jason Rohm paints a grim picture that’s both realistically nerving yet bizarrely funny. The tale of a
desperate soul in a world that’s tied by rules and akward questions, almost comic like in subtle detail.
Suicide has 32 pages of black and white drawings, with text in English and awkward Dutch.
The compilation provides a harrowing soundtrack. Tunes by Andrew Coltrane, Sick Llama, Warmth,
Droughter, Bottom Feeder, Raperies (Like Draperies), Ex-Cocaine, Robedoor and Josh Lay.

suishou no fune | mystic atmosphere
cd-r
Mystic Atmosphere welcomes back the unpolished, raw around the edges side of these interstellar psychonauts. Slightly reminiscent of their first Holy Mountain album, Where the Spirits Are. Tail’s drums splashing like mossy boulders into the Pacific, primitive pounding Moe Tucker style. Mystic Atmosphere contains four tracks blessed with psych guitar panorama’s soaked in holy reverb, a slowed down monster jam sounding like a drone version of a Mainliner or High Rise track and their ever mournful, lost in life wailing. Second track is one of the heaviest Suishou No Fune tracks I have ever heard. 3 minutes of Fushitsusha-like venom, a concrete reinforced mini-jam while tracks 3 and 4 dive deep into the cosmic psych oceans previously explored by Les Rallizes Denudes. Rawest Suisho No Fune record to date, no doubt.

equally breathtaking Kunado, released last year on Utech. This one
contains two, gutwrenching live performances at Tokyo’s Loopline. First
track features Reiko.A of former Merzbow fame and travels through a
thick, hazy fog of shimmering wordless vocals before collapsing face
down in a pool of electronic voodoo damage. On the second, shorter

sounding beauty I’ve come across this year. Heavy stuff but with an ear
for subtle detail. 40 copies in plastic sleeves with pro printed art,
design by Orphax himself.

heavy winged | enough rope

Straight up uncompromising set of psychedelic mayhem by this wasted
power trio. Alongside Julie Mittens, Heavy Winged are the truest of
heirs to the most brutal chapters in the PSF catalog. Imagine
Fushitsusha, High Rise and Mainliner erupting from the worlds most
primitive volcano as a crusty stream of scorching tonal lava. Including
a fucked up drone blast that sounds like ten jet planes stuck in a
cave.
Comes in square dvd box with bleak cover art and insert by Jason
Rohm. 76 made.

psalm alarm | blk paintings vol. 1
cd-r
Psalm Alarm is a new sideproject by gruesome threesome Graveyards (Hans
Buetow, Ben Hall and John Olson) and it’s one sinister fuckin’ retard
puppy. Buetow and Hall are joined here by Zach Wallace on bass and

Listening to this feels like you’re crawling across floors littered
with rusty needles, while your kneecaps are twisted. And your eyelids
have been torn off. In the most annoying bright light ever. With sand
in your pants! If you dig whatever land there is between Graveyards and
Melée, sawing cello’s from hell, Om like bass heaviness and hardhitting
percussion than Psalm Alarm is your thing. There haven’t been
Graveyards releases this malignant….yet, and Psalm Alarm have only just
begun.

filthy turd | schoolgirls in chains
cd-r
Another stinkin’ Turd is loose! And believe me, whatever you’ve heard
by the Turd before, it’s NOTHING like this one. Schoolgirls in Chains
was recorded at a girls school (!) and you can hear the dude got
inspired by fantasies of uniforms, ponytails and, well, chains and
stuff. What you get are minimal horrorvibes highlighted by crushed
musicbox melodies, tension, lots of tension and release, some sicko
unexpected release moments. I don’t know what his filthy ass been
thinking of while roaming those corridors but I’m sure he had the time
of his life there. Turd himself sez: “The 'big band' samples on the track
is a bunch of girls in music class getting ready for exams!” Yeah
right perv.
Only 43 made. Fuck.

Third and final edition in Marko Neumann’s Jour Ouvrable series and
without a doubt the heaviest and most intense Cahier so far. Ashened
glaciers of droning feedback crashing with insane, electrocuted

up real nice from drawn out noisescapes to intenser, filthier heights
before falling face down in a pool made of the sweetest piano melody
ever.
